Antidepressants dramatically raise risk of cataracts
(NaturalNews) Of the 35 million Americans who are age 65 or older, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) claims about 7 million of them suffer from clinical depression -- and millions are on the prescription antidepressant drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro and Zoloft. Hyped by Big Pharma as the way to solve depression problems in all age groups, these medications come with a litany of serious side effects, including some that are particularly dangerous for elders. For example, a University of Minnesota study found SSRIs increase the rate of bone loss in older men and women. And now there's even more reason for seniors to be wary of taking SSRIs. New research just published in Ophthalmology, the journal of the American Academy of ...

Medicated in the cockpit: FAA says pilots on psych drugs can fly commercial airliners
(NaturalNews) What would happen if the Columbine high school rampage shooters who were psyched out on mind-altering antidepressant drugs had been piloting a jet airliner instead? On Friday, the FAA issued a new rule that says pilots taking psychiatric medications are now allowed to pilot passenger airliners while medicated! This "permission to fly while medicated" decision by the FAA covers pilots taking the antidepressant psychiatric drugs Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa and Lexapro. Not coincidentally, these are the same drugs that, in the minds of many industry observers, are linked to acts of aggression, suicide and mass murder. People on these drugs may simply lose touch with reality and feel like they're playing out a video game rather than acting out in the real world. It begs the question: Wh...

Paxil May Raise Death Risk for Those Taking Tamoxefin
Breast cancer patients who are taking Tamoxefin to prevent a recurrence of the disease should not take the antidepressant Paxil (paroxetine), a new study suggests. Women in the study who took both drugs together had a greater than average risk of dying from breast cancer. The study looked at medical records for 2,430 breast cancer patients who had been taking tamoxefin. About 1 out 4 of these women had also taken Paxil; and, on average, about 41% of the time that the women were taking tamoxefin they were also taking Paxil. The researchers found that there was about one extra death from breast cancer for every 20 women who had taken the two drugs together. The researchers believe that the risk of death from breast cancer was increased because Paxil interferes with the cancer-preventing a...
